Back to reality

We are home from Spain! We had such an amazing time and really enjoyed Barcelona and Madrid. I have about 800 pictures to sift through before I can start blogging about all the fun things we did, saw, and ate.

This sifting will definitely not be happening today. I am still getting over my jet lag. Yesterday I stayed in bed all day and only got up to go to the grocery store and cook dinner.  Hopefully I will find the energy to edit all my pictures during the week.

This is how I spent yesterday.  Ice cream and Bravo.

However, I did upload a few pictures so here is a sneak peak of some of the pictures I took.

La Boqueria or a little slice of heaven on Earth
Lots of fresh fruit

Seafood at the market

The paella we made in cooking class
Tortilla and tomato bread
Casa Battlรณ
A Spanish vineyard
Palacio Real

It took almost an hour and two near nervous breakdowns just to upload these pictures.  I am praying that Blogger goes a little faster tomorrow or it could be months before I can upload everything.

fill in the blank friday

We should be on our way back to USA today.  I'm sure I will have lots of stories and fun anecdotes to share with all of you.  May is going to be a BIG month for the blog.  Just saying.

1. One of life's most simple pleasures is going for walks with my husband and the dogs (if they are behaving).

2. Waiting on someone to call me back about something important and time sensitive makes me want to punch someone.

3. I like sleeping because it makes me happy.

4. Persnickety is a funny word.

5. If I had to choose one beauty product to use for the rest of eternity it would be deodorant.  It's basic but I would be sad without it.  I'm not Matthew McConaughey.  I'm not down with my own musk.

6. I'm happy that warm weather is right around the corner.

7. I would never go bungee jumping.  I am deathly scared of heights and there is no way in hell that I would willingly jump off a bridge and essentially plunge to my death.  No way, no how.

Walk like an Egyptian

While we were in Houston in Febraury, I decided that Daniel and I should do something that we have never done together while in town. Go to a museum. I am a little ashamed to admit that I have only been to one museum in Houston and it was when Princess Diana's dresses were on display. Do not even get my started on my love for British royalty. I was born in England, you know.

The Museum of Fine Arts Houston was having a King Tut display that sounded very interesting. We both like history and this would give me the perfect excuse to go downtown and then end up at the Galleria. Tory Burch was also having a sale.  How is that for kismet?

I tried to take some pictures but they were pretty strict about the no photography policy.  Lame.

There was actually a super long line.  Who knew Houston was so sophisticated?

King Tut

This may have been my favorite part

Overall I give the exhibit a thumbs up.  I learned some stuff and that is always fun.  I also got some shoes and a bracelet at Tory Burch that day thanks to a Presidents' Day sale.  Thank you presidents!

fill in the blank friday

I aim to keep the people happy and I know the people like them some fill in the blanks.  I pre filled out two fill in the blanks so there would be something on the blog while I am vacationing.  This is a gift (from the little things we do).

1. When I was a kid I wanted to be a marine biologist that worked with manatees when I grew up.

2. As an adult, my dream job would be a travel show host. Samantha Brown is living my dream. I would love any job that allowed me to travel and experience other cultures. If you know of one, please share.

3. When I was younger I wanted to be just like my mom.  She worked so hard to make things easy for my sister and me.  She is still pretty legit.

4. The childhood Halloween costume that I remember most was when I was Snow White. My aunt made the costume for me.  There is one picture my parents took that is still my favorite picture of myself ever.

5. My favorite childhood toy was Barbies. I had a ton and created very complex story lines. I probably played with them for far longer than I should have but I blame my younger sister.

6. The time I got into the biggest amount of trouble when I was a kid was when I spit on my dad. I had never gotten spanked until that moment and I totally deserved it.  I'm still pretty ashamed to admit that I did that.  Live and learn.

7. I get daily inspiration from Pinterest and my family and friends.

Pictures from my iPhone

My nephew loves phones and he especially loves looking at your pictures. I was looking through some of the pictures I have taken and thought it would make for a fun but random blog. So here are some of the pictures I have taken over the past few months.

My vet had me give him too much medicine.  Dog CPR was brought up.

My husband gets me.  Sometimes I want fancy.  Sometimes I want as seen on TV pillows for my heavy head.

fill in the blank monday

So I started these blanks on Saturday, but I didn't finish them.  I have a major senioritis/two days until we leave for Spain vacation fever.  I am ready to go.

1. Today is a good day because we leave for Spain in two days.

2. The best thing I did all week was since it's the beginning of the week, I would say getting a pedicure. It was needed.

3. The current weather is cloudy and rainy and it makes me feel sleepy and like I need to be drinking hot chocolate.

4. The best thing about spring is that the weather finally starts to warm up and I start wearing my spring/summer wardrobe. Plus we usually take out annual vacation in spring and I love vacations.

5. A fashion trend that I'm dying to try out for spring is maxi skirts (particularly a red one) and hot pink blazers.  I will be on the hunt for both of these in Spain.  I am also loving patterned denim.  I've conquered colored denim so I feel like patterned denim is the next step.

6. A person who made me smile this week was my friend Meghan. I did something for her and was rewarded with cupcakes. She is the best.

7. The most delicious thing I ate all week was the aforementioned cupcakes and some delicious breakfast pizza at a meeting. It was seriously amazing. I would love to add rice krispy treats to the list if anyone would like to make me some.

When is enough enough?

My name is Heather and I am a remodel-oholic. I seriously have issues. I have no idea when to throw in the towel and say enough is enough and we are not putting any more money into this house. We have plans to build in the next three years, but I feel like we have done so much to our current home, that we might as well see it through to the end. We'll see what my patience allows.

Our latest project was a new garage door.  I have been looking for a new car for a while and my husband's one stipulation was that we needed a garage to park it in.  I usually park on the street which isn't so safe or smart when you live in the Panhandle.  Hail is no one's friend.

Our old garage was rough.  Dilapidated is the word that comes to mind.  I would guess it was built in the 1920s and hadn't been touched since.

The old garage

I wanted to stay true to the style of the house and chose to have a carriage door installed.  I thought it might be a little crazy to have an old home with a modern garage door.  The actual door went up quickly but it took forever to get the finishes installed.  Overall, I am pretty happy with the finished product.  We still need to paint the actual garage structure but I think it looks a million times better and I feel pretty fancy parking in a garage.  Bring on the hail!

The new garage door

Oh and I got to get a new car!  I thought the garage excuse might be a ruse but it wasn't.  And I got the car of my dreams so everybody wins.

fill in the blank friday

So I have been doing a sucky job of updating the blog recently. I have been made aware of this fact. I will do my best to keep the blog updated until we go to Spain, but I am not going to promise to blog while we are in Spain. At least you have all those fun posts to look forward to in May!

1. My greatest strength is my ability to make to-do lists and prioritize tasks. This comes in very handy and was especially useful when I was working full-time. I also have a memory like a steel trap. I forget nothing.

2. My greatest weakness is the fact that my memory is like a steel trap. This can make it really hard to forget when I have been hurt and then forgive. I am working on it.

3. People always compliment me on my taste. I have not always had good taste and it used to be a little schizophrenic. However, I feel like I have really figured out what I like and what I don't like and people dig it.

4. If you found me procrastinating you'd probably find me watching Real Housewives or any of the Bravo programming or pinning on Pinterest. I am always amazed by how much I can get done while procrastinating.

5. The most cozy place in all the world is the leather couch in our living room or our bed. I spend way too much time in both of these locations.

6. Something new that I tried recently was photography, rock climbing, making cake balls, and water chestnuts (I can't handle the texture).

7. This weekend I would like to spend time with our friends that are in town and get the lights up on our new garage. The last task is more for Daniel (in case he is reading this).
